Hotel Review: Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa (Junior Suite)

The Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa has been on my list of hotels to go to for quite sometime - this was further encouraged by the official re-branding which took place last year after all the refurbishments and enhancements have been completed. The property also houses the world's largest So SPA at its 6,000 sqm heritage site. With 211 rooms and suites as well as four private villas, the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa offers direct access to the idyllic Tanjong Beach in Sentosa and the property itself is a great escape from the busy Singapore city life!

Hotel Entrance

In order to get to the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, you must first get into Sentosa Island - while there are multiple ways to get into the island, I would strongly recommend for you to take the complimentary shuttle bus from VivoCity (pick-up point is located near JPOT) to avoid any charges. The shuttle bus runs every half-hourly and will leave VivoCity on the hour and at every 30 minutes past the hour to the hotel. There is also a shuttle service which runs from Paragon (in Orchard) to the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa every two hours. Alternatively, you can also consider taking an Uber in - just remember to print your booking confirmation to get free entry into Sentosa Island.

After achieving my Le Club AccorHotels Gold status with my stay at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour last year, I decided to check out the Junior Suite of the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa one weekend. AccorHotels run a number of deeply-discounted flash sales across the year which offer up to 50% off room rates (sometimes inclusive of breakfast too!) so be sure to take advantage of those if you are planning for leisure stays. 

Living Room

The Junior Suites at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa offer 55 sqm of beautifully-appointed space which a semi-partitioned bedroom. In fact, I was lucky enough to be assigned a Junior Suite that is located on ground level and therefore had direct access to the gardens outside. I was told that the Junior Suite faces a high peacock-traffic area but honestly, I saw none during my stay - you are better off viewing them at Kwee Zeen during breakfast (more on this later!).

The beautiful open-plan Junior Suite features a living room that is both contemporary and elegant - you will also find a 47-inch LED SMART TV here (there is another one in the bedroom too!) in case you do not want to brave the heat outside. I love how spacious the Junior Suite feels and I think the semi-partitioned bedroom helped created that sense of space as well. 

Coffee Machine

While I do appreciate a Nespresso coffee machine (which I personally think should be the base standard of a luxury hotel), the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa impresses with an illy coffee machine in the Junior Suite. In fact, it is so carefully concealed that one might miss it out completely. Fortunately enough, the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa does not charge for illy coffee pod - unlike the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort when I visited last year. This is also where you will find a wide selection of TWG teabags and the fully-stocked minibar.

The bedroom which features a plush king-sized bed is also a delight to rest in. I absolutely love the openness of this Junior Suite but for those of you traveling with children, do take note that there is no way to close the bedroom off from the main living area. You will also find two wardrobes (one containing a sizable safe) in the bedroom where you will be able to hang your clothes up if you are thinking about staying here on a mid to long-term.

The bedroom of the Junior Suite is also filled with little touches - a beautiful art piece, a bedside lamp that is actually not too bright to leave on and more importantly, light switches at the side for you to get ready for (or out of) bed.

The bathroom of the Junior Suite at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa is highly reflective, making it challenging to get a good shot of the space without my own reflection. You will find a huge soaking tub here and a separate rain-shower area (complete with some bells and whistles) for your personal enjoyment. I also love the space around the bathtub which made it possible for me to indulge in my Netflix-binge even while being in the tub.

Similar to my previous stay at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour, bath amenities were provided by LANVIN. Since I stayed in a Junior Suite this time at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, the amenities were in much larger bottles (100ml) instead.

The rooms and suites here are beautiful but the compounds? Stunning! In fact, it provided me with such a sense of calm that I felt like I was teleported away from Singapore and into a safe haven (even just for a night). The peaceful surroundings reminded me of the resorts in Nusa Dua, Bali and while this isn't a newly-built property, I think that AccorHotels has done a stunning job in transforming this place to adhere to the Sofitel brand standards.

There is also an iconic water fountain in the middle of the resort that you can't miss - go in the evening to watch it in its full glory!

The Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa remains to be a premier destination within Singapore for executives who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. There are also various facilities here for that extra indulgence (including the world's largest SO Spa that I did not actually get to visit since I was too comfortable in the resort). The swimming pool at the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa also seems largely popular with families who are visiting. In fact, there is a whole area in the pool that is a lot more shallow, making it perfect for young children to play or be introduced to swimming even. 

Stairs (132 Steps) to Tanjong Beach

If you want to take a stroll along the beach, the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa offers direct access to arguably the nicest beach in Singapore, Tanjong Beach. I highly recommend getting a drink (or some food) at Tanjong Beach Club in the evening - it's really a place to see and be seen. In fact, they even have a private pool so if you have been working out, take the chance and flaunt some of the results from your hard work. Do take note that you will be required to take 132 steps down to the beach and even though it may seem pretty gentle at first, it is actually quite steep towards the end so if you are traveling with elderlies or young children, you may wish to go the longer way.

Since I stayed in a Junior Suite, breakfast was complimentary (for up to 2 registered guests) and was served at Kwee Zeen. In fact, if you find the name familiar, you might remember it from the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort. While the Kwee Zeen in Singapore is not as big, it offers sweeping views of the ocean (if you are sitting outside) and to be honestly, it mildly reminds me of Boneka at The St. Regis Bali Resort. 

Wild Peacocks

Be prepared to find a selection of local and international favourites at the breakfast buffet. I would highly recommend for you to sit outside since the peacocks will come visit. In some instances, if you leave your food unattended, they will take it - seriously! That being said though, your children will definitely appreciate the close proximity with these majestic creatures.

Without a doubt, the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa is the nicest local getaway from city life that I have had. I've stayed in many hotels within Singapore but never have I felt so in touch with myself and nature. While these Junior Suites do not come in cheap, they offer so much space for you to rest and relax. With Sentosa being just a short drive away from civilisation, the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa offers an incredible and luxurious escape without the hassle of traveling internationally.
