Hotel Review: The St. Regis Singapore (Executive Deluxe Room)

The first St. Regis Hotel was built by one of the wealthiest men in America and ever since then, the St. Regis brand has been synonymous with luxury and opulence - a private retreat for distinguished travellers and those who appreciate the finer things in life. Having been to the Brasserie Les Saveurs, La Brezza and the famous Yan Ting on multiple occasions, I was excited to spend a weekend in what is allegedly, Singapore's most prestigious address - The St. Regis Singapore.

Being a Gold Starwood Preferred Guest (from just doing ONE qualifying stay - find out how HERE!), I was assigned a room despite arriving at 1130AM. In fact, from what I know, The St. Regis Singapore actually accommodates early check-in requests (where possible and available) to hotel guests from 10AM - something to take note of if you are flying into Singapore on a redeye flight. I spent the weekend in the entry-level Executive Deluxe Room and from the moment I walked in, I knew that The St. Regis Singapore is the best SPG property in Singapore and definitely one that I will return to from time to time. At check-in, I was also promptly being offered drink vouchers or 250 SPG Points for being a Gold SPG member - always a good sign when the hotel recognises loyalty benefits without having to ask for it!

Despite being the lead-in room type at The St. Regis Singapore, the Executive Deluxe room is easily one of the best rooms (amongst SPG properties in Singapore) that I have stayed in. It is incredible spacious with approximately 50-52 sqm of beautifully appointed space. The signature Butler service at all St. Regis hotels around the globe is also available with this room type - the more expensive suites get their very own private Butlers. My Butler showed up at the door after I arrived in my room shortly with some welcome amenities and an offer to show me the controls around the room (which I politely accepted). It is definitely a great idea to allow the Butler to show you the room features (since you might miss out on some) especially if it is your first time at this property!

My welcome amenities included a fruit platter as well as a plate of macarons and mixed berries. My Butler for the stay also offered to unpack my luggage (and pack it when I leave) for me but no matter how lazy I am, I think this is still something I have to do myself. Basically with the St. Regis Butler Service, you can call up your Butler (just dial 0 on the phone) for anything - coffee, pressing of clothes, hotel dining reservations or even to get more information pertaining to the area around you. Two complimentary pressing is included with the room and coffee/tea is complimentary - should you wish to tip your Butler, that is discretionary and not at all compulsory (in Singapore at least). If you wish to help yourself, the room comes with a French press for coffee and TWG teabags. The minibar is also fully-stocked with drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), snacks and an adorable bottle of Ruinart Champagne. There is almost no space for your own personal items so that is definitely something to take note of if you are thinking of refrigerating your own beverages - I could only fit two bottles of mineral water in it with much of my Jenga skills.

The Executive Deluxe Rooms at The St. Regis Singapore offers a ample living space, a huge bedroom as well as a spacious French marble bathroom which includes a free-standing bathtub and separate shower area with jet massage. The signature St. Regis bed (and linen) was such a dream to sleep in and if anything, these beds should be called the Heavenly Bed (not those from Westin which pales in comparison)! There is also plenty of space to lounge around in the bedroom - the sofa at the front of the bed, the day bed which enjoys plenty of daylight and moonlight as well as the large work desk which is perfect for getting serious stuff done. WiFi is provided free of charge and it can be easily accessible if your room number and last name.

In case you are wondering what the room looks out to, there isn't really anything exciting from the room.

The bathroom is also filled with small touches that will make your stay perfect. For starters, most of the mirrors in the beautiful bathroom are heated and this means that you will not have to deal with fogged-up mirrors even when taking a hot shower. It is not common to find double basins in the lead-in room but here at The St. Regis Singapore, you will be spoiled from the moment you walk through the front door. In fact, your tub experience is made even better with the existence of an ad notam television - yes that's exactly a screen that is hidden in the mirror! Why bother trying to position your bathtub so that you can look out into the TV in the room when you can just build a television into the bathroom mirror?

There is also a small dressing area in the bathroom where you will be able to hang up your clothes. I love the fact that the dressing area is connected to the bathroom since it makes perfect sense - it is surprising how many hotels in Singapore actually do not get this right. There is also a safe located inside this room just in case you have any (extra) valuables that you do not feel safe leaving around in the room. Now, let's get to those amazing bath robes that you see above. While I generally do not use them much, these St. Regis bath robes (which are the same across all the different St. Regis around the world) have to be the most amazing ones ever. I love the weight, comfort and design of these gold-trimmed St. Regis-branded bath robes. In fact, I loved them so much that I actually went on the St. Regis Boutique (yes, this is where you can even get the signature St. Regis bed delivered) to look for them! Priced at US$185 each before shipping charges to Singapore, these are definitely on my wish list!

While I generally do not appreciate in-house branded bath amenities, these ones from Remède Spa (which you can also purchase from the spa downstairs or the St. Regis Boutique) that you can find across all St. Regis hotels around the world are amazing - especially the Body Wash! These 40ml little bottles even have a translucent area on the left side to show you how much is left in them.

I spent most of my afternoon alternating between the deep-soaking tub and the day bed by the window. For extra privacy, day and night curtains can be controlled automatically via the controls which are located on both sides of the bed. While you are at it, you can also select the right dimness (or brightness) for your bedroom and bathroom. Unlike the W Singapore Sentosa Cove which offers mood lighting options, The St. Regis Singapore offers you to the opportunity to select from a range of brightness with intelligent labels like 'Movie' and 'Reading' amongst others. 

Wet Lounge - Remède Spa

I realised that it is not common knowledge amongst the people I have spoken to that a hotel's spa is usually open to in-house guests at no additional charge - fees apply obviously for treatments. With that being said, you will have access to the Wet Lounge (indoor and outdoor) if you are a guest of The St. Regis Singapore. The Remède Spa in Singapore is one of the rare few places in Asia that offers a range of signature rituals from French podiatrist, Bastien Gozalez. During my visit to the Remède Spa, I experienced the Perfect Synergy (S$360++) treatment which is a seamless harmony of a customised facial and a Bastien Pedicure. Honestly, this is the best spa experience I have up to date. I love how Steve Desobeau and his therapist work in perfect synchronisation - at some point it was actually pretty scary since it actually felt like my therapist had four hands. The result of this? Soft, supple skin that glows from within and a feet as soft as a baby's! Sure, the Perfect Synergy may seem like quite a bit to pay but the results are amazing!

Breakfast is served at the beautiful and incredibly opulent Brasserie Les Saveurs - on busy days, La Brezza may also open up for breakfast to deal with the crowd. Honestly, I personally feel that the whole breakfast service is a little chaotic and it is definitely the weakest link during my stay. Getting a table is not difficult but getting the attention of the wait staff seems to be pretty laborious. In fact, I waited over 30 minutes for my Epicurean Omelette because the waitstaff actually forgot to put my order in. I eventually asked someone to check on it but the wait staff did not actually get back to me - not impressive. After what seems like 45 minutes (15 minutes from the time I actually approached the restaurant manager), I finally got my omelette. It was delicious but I've just gotten a handful of bad service here on separate occasions.

While most of the hot dishes have to be ordered, there is also a small buffet spread where you will be able to find fresh breads, pastries, sushi (!), cheese, the usual suspects for breakfast (e.g. sausage) and desserts. 

Swimming Pool

Don't forget to take a dip in the Swimming Pool - preferably before your spa treatment unless you do not have plans to do so (and you should really consider that decision). You should probably avoid going into the pool around 5PM to 7PM since La Brezza may get quite busy and people tend to enjoy sitting outside - unless you enjoy people watching at you swim. 

Gym

Like I have mentioned earlier, The St. Regis Singapore has got to be the best and my personal favourite SPG property in Singapore right now. I love how close it is to Orchard Road without being on the busy side so you still get to enjoy some peace and quiet. I also love how exclusive the entire property feels right from the moment you walk in. The rooms are quite spacious (the suites even more so but more on this in another stay for another post) and beautifully appointed. Sure the room rates are slightly on the higher side but unless you want a killer infinity-pool, I'd definitely choose this property over The Westin Singapore (which has similar room rates on weekends).
