Lounge Review: British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar - Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)

I have been to The Qantas Singapore Lounge on many occasions and it is probably one of my favourite airport lounges in Singapore. The quality of food is good, the interiors are beautiful, there is a proper bar (that does solid cocktails) and the lounge will also be expanding this year to cater for more premium cabin guests. Since my last visit to the British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar was during the peak hours, I was not able to get a decent shot of the interiors and as such, I have decided to drop by the airport a little earlier to check out the BA lounge next door.

The British Airways Lounge in Singapore Changi Airport is located in Terminal 1 and it is just a short stroll away from The Qantas Singapore Lounge. The British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar is a oneworld world and this means that you will be able to access it even if you are flying Business Class on a partner airline. If you are looking to experience the lounge and premium cabin products that British Airways has to offer, the British Airways Avios program is a great place to start. The British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar is open from 3:00PM to 11:00PM daily - the lounge gets incredibly busy from 9:00PM (the same time the QF lounge gets busy) so if you would like some peace and quiet, make sure you drop by early.

It is worth noting that the British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar was refurbished back in 2015 and it still looks relatively-new. There are plenty of seats available but trust me when I say almost everyone of them will be taken up during the peak hours. I dropped by one evening when I was bound for Tokyo on Japan Airlines and it was completely packed - I ended up staying for just 15 minutes before leaving. Proper food is only served from approximately 5:00PM so the lounge is actually really quiet before that - I was one of probably ten passengers in the lounge when I visited at 4:00PM.

Plush Seating Area

Since the lounge was relatively empty, some of the passengers have actually made themselves quite comfortable while waiting for their connecting flight. It is always interesting how people are willing to shell out thousands of dollars for a Business Class flight but not a hundred dollars for a nice room to sleep in (I highly recommend the Aerotel Singapore if you would like a place to rest and freshen up).

There are plenty of different seating areas throughout the lounge but the first thing that you will probably notice is the Concorde Bar out front which requires a secret pin to access. Now this private area is reserved for First Class passengers only and if you are indeed flying on the pointiest end of the plane, you will receive a little card with the pin number when entering the British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar.

Business Center

The is also a small Business Center located towards the back of the lounge and there are even work stations if you are not traveling with your laptop (does anyone in this day and age?!). While I did like that there is a large work desk here in the lounge, it does get taken up by hungry travellers looking to have their meals during the peak hours.

Perfect for Solo Travellers

As mentioned earlier, I visited the British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar before the hot food were being brought out so you will not be seeing any photos of the food in this review. From my previous experience however, the food was pretty unimpressive and you would be better off in The Qantas Singapore Lounge if you are hungry. Do note that the latter lounge no longer serves the most delicious laksa in Changi Airport anymore so you might have to fly on Singapore Airlines for access into the SilverKris Lounge instead.

Wide Selection of Spirits and Drinks

While the British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar does not have a real bar with a bartender, you will have access to plenty of spirits and alcohol here (just make sure you know what to do with them). In the middle section of the lounge is where you will find some snacks like chips and nuts alongside the 'Champagne Bar'. Here, you will find a good selection of wines, spirits as well as other beverages.

In the other room closer to the main entrance is where you will find all the hot food. This room was largely empty during my visit before 5:00PM but they did have a number of canapés, desserts as well as a bowl of fresh fruits.

Interiors

While the British Airways Lounge and Concorde Bar is certainly not my favourite airport lounge in Singapore, it is probably one of my top five airport lounges in Singapore. The chicness of the lounge disappears quickly from the moment you walk into it and while the functional design of the lounge does appeal to me, I did find it to be a little too bright for my liking - the cool lights reminded me of my office. If you are ever flying in Business Class on a oneworld member airline, check out The Qantas Singapore Lounge next door first (if you can) before making a beeline of the BA lounge.
