Lounge Review: Premier Lounge - Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

As I was traveling on Singapore Airlines' Business Class cabin from Denpasar to Singapore, I was given access to the Premier Lounge at the Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). If you are traveling in coach or if you do not have lounge access, there are restaurants that you can choose from at the airport but the prices are actually quite high. There are three main airport lounges here at the airport - TG Lounge, Premier Lounge and the Garuda Indonesia Lounge (which is supposedly the best one here).

Buffet Area
Premier Lounge - Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

I have been to the Premier Lounge here at the Ngurah Rai International Airport on multiple occasions and I have never been motivated enough to take a photo since it is always so crowded. Since there are no Star Alliance lounges here at the airport, all eligible passengers traveling on Star Alliance member airlines will gain access to this lounge. To make things worse, this is also a Priority Pass lounge which means anyone with the right credit card can access this place for free.

Aesthetically, I can't say the Premier Lounge here at the airport looks bad. In fact, it looks a lot better than the previous one if you can remember. While it could be due largely to the high volume of visitors, I did find the entire lounge to be grimy and unattractive - the carpets and seats made me uncomfortable because they just did not look that clean. Honestly, plastic seats would have been better here since it is easier to clean.

As I walked around the lounge, I noticed that that the lounge staff has decided to carve a lemon to look like a rat. While it probably does take a fair amount of skills to do so, I thought that it was weird for a place like that to put a 'rat' (no matter real or not) that close to food. Everyone in Singapore knows that rats and food do not go hand in hand.

Selection of Hot Food

The selection of hot food here at the Premier Lounge is fairly miserable - expect to find mostly 'brown food' that have been either deep-fried or stir-fried. The fried chicken was alright (albeit cold) but the rest of the dishes were terrible. If you are hungry, there is a Hard Rock Cafe downstairs that serves much better food. If you are thirsty, the best alcoholic drink you can get in the lounge is probably a beer - the wines are equally bad so save your calorie-intake for Champagne on-board the plane instead. 

Spaghetti Bolognese
Premier Lounge - Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

If you are craving for food that is actually warm, there is a 'live' station near where the fridges are located at - they were serving spaghetti bolognese while I was there. As you can see from the photo, nothing much to shout about but if you are hungry (or drunk), this may be an alright option - just make sure they remember your order because I saw a couple of angry travellers venting their frustration about a missed order. 

Seating Area

There is a (relatively) quieter seating area towards the back of the lounge and if you intend to get some work done, the WiFi provided by the lounge is actually quite terrible. At the time of writing, the following access code and password will give you access to the 'Premier Lounge 5' network but I thought that the airport's free WiFi is actually faster:

I can't say that the Premier Lounge here at the Ngurah Rai International Airport is anywhere near my favourite airport lounges but it is alright if you can access it for free (and you should when you hold the right credit card!). Otherwise, I will probably save up the money to access this lounge and spend it at one of the restaurants downstairs instead. Now, I have heard quite a bit about the Garuda Indonesia Lounge and I have just booked a KLM flight in Business Class so I can go check it out for myself in a few months.
