Lounge Review: Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge - Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)
One of the many perks with traveling on Business Class is the airport lounge access that you get before your flight - some of these are impressive like The Private Room in Changi Airport (when you fly First Class or Suites with Singapore Airlines) or the Cathay Pacific Lounge in Haneda Airport. On the other hand, some airport lounges are disappointing and lacklustre - the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one such example.

The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge (which is also a Star Alliance-affiliated lounge) is located in the Satellite Building of the KLIA. It is on the mezzanine level where all the other airport lounges are located - the SilverKris Lounge is located fairly close to the Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge which I have heard better things about. If you are having trouble locating the SilverKris Lounge, look out for the Royal Silk Lounge instead since there are signs that point to the latter lounge but not the former.
The SilverKris Lounge here in KLIA is really small and it pales in comparison to the SilverKris Lounge in Singapore Changi Airport. It is open from 5:30AM to 9:30PM every day (subject to flight schedule change) and it offers a selection of food, drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), WiFi as well as restrooms. Most of the seats here in the lounge cater for an independent traveller if you are visiting as a family, it might be difficult to get a round table of sorts to sit together.
USB Charging Ports as well as Power Outlets can be found easily throughout the lounge and there is usually one next to (or within reach from) each chair. For instance, there were four USB Charging Ports in between two seats where I was seated at which I thought was fairly generous. Just make sure that the switch is turned on when you plug your devices in to charge (most of the airport lounges that I have been to have these turned on all the time).
Since I have already had lunch in the city prior to arriving at the airport, I only picked out some of the lighter bites from the buffet spread. There is a small selection of hot and cold dishes available - the Chicken Bak Kut Teh was quite delicious (even though I could not even find a piece of meat in it?) but the rest of the canapés were pretty sad looking. I also tried eating them but they tasted as bad as they looked. The only saving grace that the SilverKris Lounge in KLIA has is the drink selection - there is a reasonable amount of alcohol here in this lounge (which the Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge lacks) so you can at least settle for a stiff drink here.
My flight from Kuala Lumpur back to Singapore was departing from C4 on that day so you can see that the boarding gates are not located too far away from the SilverKris Lounge here in KLIA which is nice. You do get quite a bit of natural daylight as well as a nice runway view from the SilverKris Lounge here but that's about as good as it gets.
I did not stay long here at the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in KLIA since it is fairly depressing and disappointing. Using my OCBC VOYAGE Card, I managed to gain access to the much-nicer (even though significantly more crowded) Plaza Premium Lounge here in the Satellite Terminal. If you are traveling in a premium cabin on the Star Alliance network, I would probably suggest giving the SilverKis Lounge here in KLIA a miss - check out the Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge nearby or just head down to the Plaza Premium Lounge instead.
